I owned one of those. The engine faces forward, in front of the transaxle, a la Audi 80 or Audi 100 of the same era. I updated the transaxle in mine to a something else, like maybe a Passat, which was a longer, higher-end unit which required fabricating a custom bracket and pounding out part of the tunnel. Great improvement though, and an overdrive gear. I don’t have any pictures of it, though.

Interesting. Too slow to rallycross, and it's been sitting for 19 years. CP

oh man my dad had the hatchback version of this, it could do 65 on the highway although it felt happier at 60. And uphill? You’d slowly lose speed. Creating a longer and longer backup behind you. I would love to see how the added weight of a wagon affects this!

I am picking up an 19 83 wagon this weekend. White, auto, V8 AC, rear facing third row and no rust. Also $1000 less than that heap.

At the very least that 1 on the front has to go

More like the 18 on the front has to go. Really, more like there should be a negative sign on the front of the price because they should be paying someone to take the car. Negative value.

Years ago, I had a root beer b rown Quantum 5 Speed wagon with the diesel .... for about a month.
spent a thousand bucks trying to f ix overheating issues and ended up having to scrap it when it turned out to be head gasket.
Not my best car purchase decision. But not the worst!
